Chiropractic care, without the rush.

Private chiropractic · Brentwood, Los Angeles

A small, appointment-only practice where every visit is one to one with the same chiropractor, with time to listen, examine and explain.

The approach

Fewer appointments in a day, so each one is done properly.

Alcove is built around a simple idea: when there is enough time, care can be explained, adjusted and agreed on together. Four things follow from that.

  1. A woman in an oatmeal knit sweater stretching both arms over her head against a warm sand wall.

    I. Time

The day is kept light, so appointments start when they should and there is room for questions before and after treatment.

  2. A practitioner's hands gently holding a patient's forearm by a bright window.

    II. One practitioner

You see Dr. Ellery at every visit. No rotating associates, and no retelling your story to someone new.

  3. Hands in a cream cable-knit sweater holding a printed booklet open on a lap.

    III. A plan in writing

After the first visit you receive a short plan: what we found, what we suggest, how often, and when we will review it together.

  4. A tall plaster archway in soft shadow, with a few dried stems in a glass vase at its foot.

    IV. Privacy

A private treatment room, and calls and messages that come to the practice itself, never a call center.

The pace of each visit is set by you, not by the clock.Brentwood, Los Angeles

Your first consultation

One unhurried hour, in three parts.

Nothing happens without an explanation first, and you can pause or ask questions at any point. This is how the first visit usually runs.

A man in a beige sweater seated on a pale sofa, hands clasped, in conversation; faces are out of frame. A practitioner's hands on the back of a patient lying on her side on a cream treatment table. A hand writing notes in a notebook resting on crossed legs in linen trousers. Hands in a cream cable-knit sweater resting on an open printed booklet.
  1. Beforehand

    A short form, at home

A few days ahead we email a brief form with the basics, so the hour is spent on you rather than paperwork. If you have recent imaging reports, you are welcome to bring them.

  2. Part one

    Conversation

What has been happening, how it affects your work, sleep and exercise, and what you would like to be able to do again.

  3. Part two

    Examination

Posture, movement, joint and muscle testing, and a neurological screen where it is relevant. Each test is explained as it happens.

  4. Part three

    Findings, and a first treatment

What we found, in plain terms, and what we would suggest. If treatment is appropriate and you are comfortable, it can begin the same day. If your problem would be better looked after elsewhere, Dr. Ellery will tell you plainly, and give you a name to call.

  5. Afterwards

    Your written plan, by email

Within two business days, or printed and waiting for you at your next visit if you prefer paper.

The written plan

A plan you can read, question and keep.

You should never leave wondering what happens next. After your first visit, Dr. Ellery writes a one-page plan in plain language. It sets out the reasoning, the visit schedule and the date we stop and review, so you can decide with the full picture.

Plans are revisited at every reassessment and changed when they should be. You are free to stop at any point.

Services

What a visit can include.

Most visits combine two or more of these, agreed at the consultation and written into your plan.

  1. Chiropractic adjustment

Precise, hands-on adjustments to the joints of the spine and limbs, with low-force and instrument options if you prefer a gentler approach. You are told what is about to happen before it does.

    Part of most visits

  2. Soft-tissue therapy

Focused work on tight or overworked muscles around the neck, shoulders, back and hips, often in the same visit as an adjustment.

    Included where it helps

  3. Movement and posture guidance

Practical changes to how you sit, work, travel and train, with a few exercises chosen for your routine rather than a generic handout.

    Written into your plan

  4. Reassessment

A scheduled check at the point your plan sets. We compare with your first visit and decide together whether to continue, change course or stop.

Your chiropractor

Dr. Rowan Ellery

Rowan explains before treating, checks in during treatment, and writes every plan personally.

Expect plenty of questions at the start and a preference for the gentlest approach that does the job. You can ask for a lighter touch, a pause or a different technique at any point.

If you already see a physician or a physical therapist, Rowan is glad to share notes with them, with your permission, so everyone is working from the same picture.

  • Takes your history personally, not through an assistant
  • Reviews your plan with you at each reassessment
  • Replies to your questions between visits
  • Unhurried
  • One to one
  • A plan in writing

Questions

Before you book.

Do I need a referral from a doctor?

No. You can request a consultation directly. If you have seen another clinician about the same problem, their notes are welcome but not required.

What should I wear?

Something comfortable you can move in, much as you would wear to a gym or a yoga class. A gown is available if you would prefer one.

Is the first visit only an assessment?

Not necessarily. If treatment is appropriate and you are comfortable, it can start within the first hour. Some people prefer to read their plan first, and that is fine too.

What does an adjustment feel like?

You may feel pressure, a stretch or hear a click. Rowan explains what to expect before each technique, and there are low-force options if you would rather avoid manual adjustments.

Can someone come with me?

Yes. A partner, friend or family member is welcome to join you in the room for any visit.
